Dominican Priory

To this day, Tallaght is still a centre of Christian learning. In 1855 the Dominican Order founded the Priory of St. Mary where it stands today in Tallaght village, and it has served as a training college for priests of the order ever since. You can see a statue of St. Dominic, the founder of the order, in the grounds of the Priory. Almost seven hundred years ago, a castle stood here, which was built to defend the Pale from Irish
invaders. Believe it or not, part of the castle, a tower, still stands and is part of the Priory building.
